According to the report, integrating the data center cabinet with hardware and software into a single platform can help data center managers “truly gain visibility and understanding of the different dynamics within the data center to make informed decisions.”

The white paper walks the reader through each element of the data center cabinet ecosystem, starting with structure. When considering an equipment cabinet, CPI contends there are two main considerations: cabinet footprint and cabinet load bearing capacity. Beyond these measures, there are a variety of additional considerations to take into account for specific needs, such as sites that are in seismic zones.

“The cabinet should include specific and physically separate pathways for power and network cables and mounting locations for power distribution units (PDUs) that minimize interference with airflow through the cabinet,” the report states.

Managing your data center cabinet ecosystem is also crucial to consider in your planning stages. This includes power distribution, monitoring and control. To optimize management, you will need to consider elements such as IP consolidation, branch circuit monitoring, remote management and more. Power management within the white space—particularly inside the cabinet—is critical to cut down on the energy footprint of your data center.

Further, the need for data security has never been more important as business data theft has become a very real issue in today’s markets. To optimize control in your cabinet ecosystem, CPI explains you should consider seamless integration with the cabinet and PDU interface, smart card authentication and an audit trail for regulatory compliance, just to name a few.

Lastly, to optimize your data center cabinet ecosystem, the report explains system integration with DCIM software can help. When selecting DCIM software, focus on simplicity, usefulness and easy deployment.
