SPECIAL REPORT: Cooling from the Valve Up: Fluid Control Has Become a Strategic Differentiator in AI-Readiness

Sept. 28, 2026

AI-driven compute density is forcing a fundamental rethink of data center cooling, accelerating a shift from traditional air-cooled architectures to liquid-based systems built around cooling distribution units (CDUs) and direct-to-chip loops. Data center liquid cooling is projected to grow from roughly $8.2 billion in 2026 to $29.5 billion by 2033, with a compound annual growth rate above 20%. The CDU segment, specifically, is forecast to climb from roughly $2.9 billion to $14.6 billion over a similar window. Capital is moving into this space at a rate that outpaces the ability of conventional, multi-year component development cycles to keep up, which raises the cost of a slow design-to-production cycle beyond a single missed contract. In fact, fluidics may become a defining criterion for participating in the addressable market at all.
