Often called a “nodding donkey,” a pump jack uses a motor-driven reciprocating motion to mechanically lift oil when natural reservoir pressure is insufficient. While primarily associated with oil production, similar systems are sometimes deployed at natural gas wells to remove accumulated water and improve gas flow.
